Chris Pine could be about to join Christian Bale and Sam Worthington as the next Harrison Ford. Not due to the fact they are going out with a stick figure – though I’m not quite sure who they are with to be honest (and I don’t really care). But, because they may all be involved in multiple action movie franchises.
Mr Ford was of course the main player in the still-running Indiana Jones series, and also a heavy hitter in the original Star Wars trilogy as Han Solo.
While Bale has already churned out two appearances in the Batman suit for Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008), he will soon be seen as John Connor in Terminator Salvation (2009) and probably a couple more times before he takes up directing, where he can really get stuck into the director of photography.
Worthington (yeah, him again, and no, I don’t have a man-crush on the guy) is about to hit the big time in movies that will most likely have follow-ups, of course the aforementioned Terminator Salvation (2009), as well as James Cameron’s Avatar (2009) and Clash of the Titans (2010).
Now Pine, who is about to be beamed into cinemas as the legendary Captain James T. Kirk in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek, could also become the next DC Comics superhero to grace the big-screen, The Green Lantern.
IESB reported last week that the 28-year-old is at the top of Warner Bros.’ list of actors they want to play Hal Jordan, the pilot who inherits a power ring from a dying alien and turns into a galactic guardian and member of an interstellar corps group.
Casting will need to be done as shooting is supposed to begin this September with a release date of December 17, 2010 already set. Though I would bet that eventually gets pushed back to about May or June 2011.
Here’s a pretty cool fan-made trailer of what the movie might look like.
Anyway, back to Pine, IESB’s Stephanie Sanchez writes, “Word is WB is looking for a man’s man under 30″.
She goes on, “Names like Jon Hamm and Nathan Fillion have popped up but, again, they are looking for under 30.
“Sam Worthington’s name has also been floating around but Chris Pine seems to be the top choice.
“IESB has contacted Pine’s talent agent Steven Jang who has referred us to his publicist Melissa Kates at PMK who’s assistant gave us a “no comment” because Kates is currently on vacation.
“It’s a rumor for now albeit from a very reliable source inside WB.”
I’ve only ever seen Pine in one movie, Smokin’ Aces, and that was a very small role, but, with his fairly strong features, he certainly has the look of someone that could pull on a superhero outfit – and pull it off, if you know what I mean. See image above. He’s no Superman, but who is?
The earlier word out of Hollywood was that Warner originally wanted Ryan Gosling, but he declined. Good actor, but probably for the best. Personally, I’ve always had someone like Josh Duhamel in mind.
But, I guess the bottom line is … the movie is finally going to be getting made. And we can finally wipe from our minds the disturbing images we have of the last time The Green Lantern appeared in live-action form. See below.
