Wow, welcome to my life! Of course my version was on the Jersey Shore, the drinking was illegal because we were 15-20, there was no college involved, and it was a whole lot more complicated. I would like to thank Michael Cera for getting me to watch it. He was recently on Conan (recently = like a month ago) and they were talking about how people always think he is Jesse Eisenberg. He made the joke that when people come up to him and say, “Oh, we loved you in Zombieland.” and he would reply, “If you liked that you should see me in Adventureland.” Then I saw that it was on the other night so I recorded it. It really is a pretty authentic portrayal of amusement park life. Like I said though some parts were just way more complicated.
I didn’t really like Kristen Stewart until I just watched this movie. Then again the only other thing I have seen her in was the first Twilight movie. I just don’t get why people liked that one so much, but that is for another review post. In this film I really like her. It makes me want to seek out other things she has been in, especially The Runaways, where she portrays Joan Jett. Jesse Eisenberg portrayed his character so wonderfully. He is more talented than I thought originally. The Oscar buzz about him in Social Network seems to make more sense now.
The character of Lisa P. reminds me of Karen from The Last American Virgin for some reason. Ryan Reynolds in the role of a sort of bad guy was a nice change of pace. I loved in the end when James got to call him on his Lou Reed story.
Bill Hader’s role as the park owner (along with his wife/sidekick portrayed by Kristin Wigg) was amazing and in many ways stole the show. He was hilarious!
A great movie that I would definitely recommend seeing.
Oh, by the way for legal reasons I cannot confirm or deny that the corn dog sniffing scene ever did or did not happen at the amusement park I worked at.
Here is the original movie trailer for Adventureland.
