My Best Friend’s Girlfriend (2008) Review

I didn’t set out wanting to watch this movie. I just happened to catch part of it one night. The part I caught was the wedding scenes. I sort of like Dane Cook’s stand-up comedy, and I saw Good Luck Chuck and liked it. So, when I saw the wedding scene I had to find out when it was on again so I could watch the entire movie.
It was worth it.
It is a great movie with a funny plot. Cook’s character Tank found out at a young age that he could be a horrible date. So much so that he drove a woman back to her ex because he seemed so much better than Tank. Since then Tank makes good money to provide this service to other men. His best friend (Jason Biggs) then needs his services. At first Tank is reluctant, but he gives in when he sees his friend is desperate. While Tank is trying to do his job well and cause Alexis (Kate Hudson) to go running back to Dusty, he winds up falling in love with her instead. She too falls in love with him. It all causes huge problems. In the end Tank realizes (with some help from his father portrayed by Alec Baldwin) that she deserves someone better than him. He then goes back into work mode at Alexis’s sister’s wedding.
Dusty shows up at the wedding to expose Tank for what he is. Later he listens to the voicemail from Tank where he apologized and said he had finally did his job. Dusty realizes that Tank really loved her and steps aside and encourages Tank to win Alexis back. That is no easy task either.
The movie is filled with great characters, lots of laughs, and in the end a sweet love story. Basically it is one of those romantic comedies (with the emphasis on comedy), but is disguised enough that guys out there will like it too.
That being said, hey guys? Next time she wants you to watch a romantic comedy with her, point her in the direction of this one. She’ll be happy with it, and you will actually enjoy watching it.
