Hex likes a Fox in new comic adaptation

IT could be the new Beauty and the Beast. But really this is Jonah Hex, the latest comic book character to be adapted for the big screen.

We have Josh Brolin starring as the disfigured anti-hero of the old West, the title character, described best as a surly and cynical former Confederate officer who fought at Gettysburg, but now travels the land as a bounty hunter in much the same way as Clint Eastwood’s Man With No Name in Sergio Leone’s spaghetti western classics.

Megan Fox is starring as the gun-wielding, cleavage-showing Leila, who will be Hex’s love interest. Not quite sure what would attract the femme fetale to the scarred gunslinger … he must have quite a big gun.

Anyway, the premise of the film will see Hex trying to track down a voodoo practitioner named Quentin Turnbull (who is being played by John Malkovich). In the comics he was a wealthy Southern land owner whose son is killed by Union soldiers during the Civil War, and blaming Hex, seeks revenge.

He first appeared in print way back in 1974, two years after Hex himself made his debut in a series called All-Star Western. Hex got his own self-titled series in 1977.

Interestingly, the film is being directed by  Jimmy Haward, a former animator who worked on Toy Story (1995), A Bug’s Life (1998), Monsters Inc (2001),  Finding Nemo (2003) and directed Horton Hears A Who (2009).

Also starring is Will Arnett (the goofy brother from Arrested Development and Blades of Glory) as a Union soldier and Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon (impressive in Revolutionary Road) as Dr Cross Williams, the ringleader of a gladiator circus.

For Brolin, it is quite a departure after he a couple of role as dodgy politicians in Milk and W. Apparently he originally had no interest in taking on the part of Hex, bit warmed to the film due to it’s tongue-in-cheek tone … and was that it’s tongue in Megan Fox’s cheek tone?

The film is scheduled to be released June 2010. Click on the top image to check out the first poster.

  2. You know, originally there was talk that Gerard Butler was going to play Jonah Hex. As much as I love him, I’m so thankful he didn’t end up doing it, because his accent is so thick, it would be silly.

“…he must have quite a big gun” Hahahha!

Btw, that picture of Megan Fox in the corset is just wrong. What a fat cow! LOL

(Seriously, how is that humanly possible to have a waist that small??? She must have had some ribs removed!)
