You would expect Mickey Rourke to be a bit more capable than Jeff Bridges when it comes to kicking some ass. And it looks as though it will be the case in the Ironman movie series if this shot of the comeback king is anything to go by.
USA Today has just released the first image of Rourke during the making of Ironman 2. He plays Robert Downey Jnr‘s new adversary Whiplash, taking over from Bridges’ Iron Monger from the original film from last year.
Whiplash, aka Ivan Vanko, is a Russian who “has constructed his own version of a suit,” director John Favreau told USA Today, adding that among his creative innovations is a pair of whips, powered by the suit’s glowing chest piece.
Ironman 2′s Whiplash is a kind of mash-up of no less than three seperate Marvel comic book villains – Whiplash, Backlash and Crimson Dynamo.
“We like to play into and against the expectations that people might have, so we mixed it up a bit,” Favreau said.
He is expected to form an alliance with Sam Rockwell‘s Justin Hammer, a rival of Tony Stark. Scarlett Johannson is also starring as a ‘baddie’, Black Widow.
