Hey Holmes, your new movie looks cool

The first trailer for Guy Ritchie‘s Sherlock Holmes has been released – and it certainly packs a punch. The reborn Robert Downey Jnr stars as the reborn Holmes, who it appears won’t be spending too much time looking through his magnifying glass.

Ritchie, the director who returned to form with the recent RocknRolla, promised plenty of action and that’s what we will be getting, with Holmes getting into more than his share of scraps.

Not much is known about the actual plot of the movie, which will be released late December 2009, with an imdb.com synopsis stating that Detective Holmes and his stalwart partner Dr John Watson (played by Jude Law) will engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England

Downey Jnr and Law, who look to be an interesting match, are joined in an impressive cast by Rachel  McAdams (The Notebook, Red Eye), as Irene Adler, and Mark Strong (Stardust, RocknRolla), as Lord Blackwell.

It’s good to see the increasingly in-demand Strong pop-up again. After really getting some attention in the live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust, he was brilliant in Ritchie’s RocknRolla, and has been cast Russell Crowe’s main adversary in Ridley Scott‘s upcoming Robin Hood.
